About Pittsboro » Mayor's Message Message from Mayor Randolph Voller I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting our web site and welcoming you to the Town of Pittsboro . This web site was designed to not only provide basic information but to also give you a little flavor of our unique and delightful town. As you may know, Pittsboro was first incorporated as a municipal entity in 1787. The Town was named for William Pitt the Younger, the county being named for his father, the Earl of Chatham. The Town has a long, rich history and heritage which has been preserved successfully over the years. As the town has grown and changed, the goal of maintaining this character has been one of the guiding principles. Judging by the current condition of the downtown and historic district, the past and present town leaders have been successful in this endeavor. Although the Town has such an illustrious past, it is its current charm and bright future that generates the enthusiasm and optimism that is pervasive throughout the community. The Town has all of the appealing qualities of small town North Carolina; such as, friendly, caring people; a low crime rate; relatively low cost of living and a slower, gentler pace of life. These qualities coupled with its close proximity to the employment centers, cultural activities and retail conveniences of the adjacent cities of the triangle make it a particularly appealing place to call home. Pittsboro's downtown area with its mix of quaint antique shops, neighborhood eateries, small offices, small scale retail establishments, historic churches and buildings make it a lively, walkable destination that draws visitors from the entire southeast region. In fact, the Town was recently featured in an article in the April 2004 issue of Southern Living Magazine. Whether you are a visitor passing through for the day or a life long resident, we welcome you and if we can be of service please contact us. We hope you enjoy our town as much as we do! Best Regards…… Randolph Voller, Mayor |
